Coatesville applied to an area formerly occupied by market gardens and poultry farms, located around the Coatesville Primary School in East Bentleigh.
It was named in 1955 after Leslie Robert Coates, ( Moorabbin Council & Aus.Labor Party MLA)
The area had a large area of war service homes.
The bowls club, school, post office still carry the name
